Group and private courses are both taught over a 5 lessons for 5 consecutive weeks. This is so that you have plenty of time to practice your new skills, ask questions & absorb everything you will learn.
The ideal time to start is between 20 & 30 weeks, however it’s never too late or too early to learn. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need to discuss condensing a course if you are near the end of your pregnancy.
Did you know that both a mother and a father are entitled to take time off to attend antenatal appointments and birth preparation classes?
The information below is taken from www.gov.uk. You might wish to have a look online and check with your employer for more information on what you may be entitled to –
Pregnant employees have 4 main legal rights:
- Paid time off for antenatal care
- Maternity leave
- Maternity pay or maternity allowance
- Protection against unfair treatment, discrimination or dismissal
‘Antenatal care’ doesn’t just mean medical appointments – it can also include antenatal or parenting classes if they’ve been recommended by a doctor or midwife.
Employers can’t change a pregnant employee’s contract terms & conditions without agreement – if they do they are in breach of contract.
Employers must give pregnant employees time off for antenatal care and pay their normal rate for this time off. The father or pregnant woman’s partner has the right to unpaid time off work to go to 2 antenatal appointments.
If you are self-employed you may be eligible for 39 weeks Maternity Allowance. You need to have paid Class 2 National Insurance for at least 13 of the 66 weeks before your baby’s due date along with meeting other criteria. If this applies to you, you may be eligible to receive £145.18 per week for 39 weeks.
